Empowering Communities through Holistic Healing
There are two realities that shape our work at The Okeano Healing Collective.
The first: It is with urgency that we MUST combat the negative impacts of systemic racism and oppressive practices on our brown and black communities and ensure that ALL humans are able to exist with ease and joy. Dismantling systems of oppression is required if we wish to create true equity and regain power from those who intentionally maintain power imbalances that keep our brown and black communities at a disadvantage. It is necessary that we create pathways to healing for our brown and black community members, especially our youth, that ensure the reclamation of power and re-shaping the outcomes of futures. The Okeano Healing Collective answers this urgent call to action by offering programming that intentionally dismantles inequalities in mental health access by providing low to no cost eclectic, culturally responsive and appropriate healing opportunities to members of our brown and black communities.
The second reality is that it is critical to invest in our youth in order to shape the future. Our black and brown youth communities face unique burdens and challenges that are forcing them to seek alternative practices to healing and sustaining personal well-being while consistently under attack by systems of oppression. These alternative strategies must include culturally responsive practices that promote both individual and collective healing. Okeano's programs and services are deliberately designed to ensure that the community, especially our youth, has access to an abundant collection of uniquely designed healing opportunities that will empower them to forge an unforeseen, just future for themselves and others.
